New Book - Aldercar School
replied on: 7/16/2007 4:52:12 PM

I have just got a copy of the Aldercar book and it is a must!

So many things about the school I didn't know, despite going there for 4 years (60-64).

Never knew the school badge was a water wheel - Langley Mill - geddit!

Never heard the school being called the concentration camp, as it was in the early days, although I did hear of Mr Martyn the first head beig called "Hitler" [but in 1955 the war was only 10 years ago].

Never thought of the school as being revolutionary, but the flat roof style seen commonly now was pioneered at Aldercar.

The book seems a bit hard on Dr Farmer-Little, the second head, who was there when I attended. He didn't seem the type who took prisioners, but it was perhaps the style of leadership needed at the time.

Its well worth a tenner.

Wesley
