A bit more delving in the tip of my filing system reveals some more information. It is taken from mining statistics for 1884 compiled by Robert Hunt. I have lost the title but here is some info from a List of Owners and Managers under the Coal Mines Regulations, in the Midlands District,1884.

quote Owner, Mundy Alfred M, Name of Coal worked, (NoCw) Deep Hard and Deep Soft, Name of Mine (NoM,) Woodside, NoCw, Deep Soft, NoM Nutbrook, NoCw Deep Hard, NoM Coppice, Location Shipley, Agent or Manager F C Gillett, M.E., Agent, Robert H Robinson unquote.

From the above it would appear that R H Robinson was the manager of the three collieries. At the time the Coal Mines Regulations allowed a person to be the manager of more than one colliery providing that their shafts were no more that three miles apart.

regards Phil
