Local Rhymes
replied on: 10/22/2007 11:50:42 AM

I found this one in English Folk-Rhymes by G F Northall published in 1892. The quote is from the Folk Law Society journal volume 5.

quote
When Codnor's Pond runs dry,
The Lords may say good-bye.
At Codnor Park there is a large pond, believed never to fail.
AR. ii 279.
unquote

Could this be a reference to Loscoe Dam or a pond closer to Codnor Castle ? Any one got any more local rhymes that should be recorded before they vanish into the mists of time.

regards Phil
