Butchers on Peel Street
replied on: 12/30/2007 8:02:52 AM

Paul/Ice and anyone else

The shop was certainly Hartley's at some time in its history. I have a photograph of it prior to demolition, but after it had ceased trading, and you can clearly see the name of the shop over the door. The name is faint, so it is possible that it was an older name which had been covered up.

But was there not another butchers shop, closer to the junction with Lower Dunstead. One of the posts talks of it being next to the newsagents, in which case it was not the shop at the bottom of Peel Street.

Robert
