Strong's Shoe Shop
replied on: 4/2/2008 9:03:09 PM

The only Strongs shoe shop I knew of was on High st Heanor.I remember going there when I was small and Mr Strong, as we always called him, would say 'they'll fit better with wear' if you said the shoes were a bit tight. I can't recall seeing his wife. This would be in the early 1960s, but I remember some relations who had a sweet/confectioners shop on Midland road called Marions. They were a nice family.
I actually lived next door to this shoe shop between 1977 and 1983. Mr Strong was still running his shoe shop then, but he seemed to be well past national retirement age.
