Passing of Marlpool Veterans
Having lost the heads of two of its most highly respected families during the week, Marlpool has been under a cloud of sorrow.
Saturday recorded the passing of Mr Charles Boxall of Hardy Barn, at the age of 73 years, and the following day Mr John Hobson died at the ripe old age of 89 years at his home in Ella Bank Rd. Life long residents their names are synonymous with the parish in the interest of which they gave years of both private and public service.
Both were founder members of the Shipley working men’s club and Institute, in connection with which they rendered yeoman service in many ways. Horticulture also claimed the attention of these two local stalwarts, and for over 32 years Mr Hobson did most useful work as a member of the Heanor Fire brigade.
