Radford / Pounder
replied on: 4/17/2008 1:49:53 PM The date of John Pounder does indicate the farming family of Park Lane, Mapperley Derbyshire. A John Pounder is buried in the churchyard - he farmed 200 acres. That Pounder family were friends of the Squires Mundy and were responsible for much work on the Nutbrook Canal - installing locks - constructing Mapperley reservoir etc. Unfortunately there are many John Pounders (sometimes spelled Pownder). I cannot find any details in my records but the assorted Shipley branches seem to originate with my Gt Gt Grandfather John Pounder b 1790 of Muker Yorkshire. Many lived in Shipley Wood which was a small hamlet about 200 yards West of the still extent Phil Walkers Pond. I will keep the name by me and should anything come to light will let you know. |
