Forgotten Place Names
replied on: 5/26/2008 12:03:11 PM

I've had an enquiry which has left me a bit puzzled. Can anyone help?

"My granddad's family I think are from Aldecar. My mum lived at Tinsley Rd, New Eastwood, and we used to go to a place every day in the summer called "The Gudgen". It was a narrow deep trail of fast water and we loved it. I am sure I can also remember a lock there. Recently I tried to visit Tinsley Rd, but its all blocked off. Could you kindly tell me if The Gudgen is still there and how can I get to it?

I'm also trying to find out where 11 Mansons Fields, Langley Mill, was. It's where my grandmas family the Oxleys used to live."

I'm afraid I've never heard of The Gudgen or Mansons Fields.
