It seems then that it wasn't a grand "Hall" more like a large farm. I think that we can assume that the farm was owned by the Woolley's in 1901, and that Luke Gill was a tennant farmer. It would explain his apparent rise in social standing.
The French Horn rang a bell, I have a rellative on West Hill that worked there for a number of years.
