Langley Mill Pottery Fire, 1940
replied on: 5/2/2003 7:16:27 PM

In January 1940, there was a large fire at Lovatt's Pottery, Station Road, Langley Mill. It started late on a Saturday night, and it took all night, and four separate fire brigades, to get it under control. Fire fighters from the works fire brigade were supported by Heanor Fire Brigade, together with the Butterley and Eastwood Brigades. Members of the Heanor Auxilliary Fire Service also assisted.

Traffic had to be diverted off Station Road along Milnhay Road and Elnor Street (I'd like to see them try that today!)

Can anyone remember the fire, or the aftermath of it? All information would be gratefully received.
