Don't know if he had a factory but he certainly was in the hosiery trade for over 30 years before become the orgainising secretary to the Ilkeston & District Hosiery Union. As well as many other roles within Heanor Urban District Council

Yes Harry did have a son James, he also have several other children, who have passed to better places and are burried in Marlpool cemetery.

Clarence George Bassford was my Grandad. Both he and his father were members of Heanor Council. Any information on either people would be of great help.

Thanks

Don't know if this is of any interest, but I used to know a Cyril Bassford who live on Broadway, near the Town Ground. I remember him as being something to do with Heanor Urban District Council - perhaps thats where to councillor conection comes in. I have more about this chaps friends etc; but it's too personal to publish here. Ask if you would like to know..

On reflection his name could have been Clarence; I'm getting old!!!!

Henry Bassford was a councillor on the Heanor Urban District Council, and for many years was the council's shop's and market inspector. In the 1920's, he was also the secretary of the local Hosiery Workers' Union.

There is a street in Heanor named after him, Bassford Avenue.
