New Langley Colliery

My dad was Harry Bestwick, he worked there from about 1924 until Feb 1960 when I think New Langley closed. He was on the same shift as his brother George the day he had an accident and broke his back, around 1937 ish. Aunty Emma, George's wife worked in the canteen after his accident.
I remember during the 40's 50's the miners would come home in all their muck. Many homes like ours hadn't a bathroom and they used tin baths in front of the fire. I believe it was the late 50's before the baths were put in the pit.
