Tim

Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for your comments. I'm not sure exactly where the Barratt site is (I shall check next time I'm in Langley Mill), but it's doubtless on the site of an old outcrop and/or brickworks.

When it comes to history, I take it you've seen our main site, at HeanorHistory.org.uk? Other than that, you won't find an awful lot on the web to do with the area. The Heanor & District Local History Society have published a few booklets over the years on the local history, some of which specifically include Aldercar - details are also on the website.

I'm Aldercar born and bred (though I don't live there now) - yes, it is a bit run down, but there's so much to its heritage and history - mostly, but not only, industrial. I don't know how long you've been in the area, but did you know that you are within walking distance of the remains of a Norman Castle? (Just go down Aldercar Lane for about 2 miles)

There will be a talk on the history of Langley Mill at the Society, but not till 8 March 2005 - well worth putting in your diary (non-members always welcome - just buy a raffle ticket!)

All the best for the future, and I hope you enjoy looking into the past too. Any queries, please get in touch.
