A Lion on the Lammas
replied on: 6/9/2004 6:05:10 PM

A little more information -- my Mother now tells me that the piece of land refered to was not the Lammas -- the Lammas was the ground next to Commonside School(Corfield School) on Thorpes Road. This seems more realistic as this is a bigger piece of land and would have held a circus. She remembers fairs taking place there with a variety of rides etc. In point of fact these two bits of land are only 50m apart - so the confusion is understandable. I am aslo told that the original "story" came from a Mr Harold Pearson (still living).
