Berle House
replied on: 8/10/2004 6:35:39 PM I can't actually help you, but would suggest that the name of the house dates it as being post WWI. Certainly, Berle Avenue in Heanor, which I assume takes its name from the same person, was named after Cecil Berle, a local theatrical celebrity who specialised in Shakespearen type roles and who often could be seen wearing a large hat and a cloak. He did charity shows during the First World War, which is what makes me suspect that the house name is later than that. |
