There was a shop owned by a Purdy at Derby Road, Langley Mill, directly opposite the entrance to Vic Hallams (until recently, just inside Nottinghamshire). It later became known (as it still is, though it's been derelict for years) as Edgar Parker's.

Whether it was connected with your Purdy's, I don't know.
