No sorry- it was a very old (in early 1950's) wooden building and always seemed to be surrounded by waist high grass and nettles-very uncared for- not really somewhere you'd want to photograph-but had great times as Brownies in there.Jessie Todd was Brown Owl-she was also the local Milkwoman-when milk was brought by horse and cart.

You've not got a picture of the old church hall have you? Seen lots of the old Aldercar School, but not the church hall.

I'm sure your elf song was enchanting!

Yes-the one that is now a lightfitting warehouse-and they've knocked the Sunday School room down and made a car park ! Progress?
The scouts and cubs were held in the upstairs room at the chapel
Brownies and guides were held in the Church Hall at Aldercar (i was in the elf patrol-"Here we are the little elves, helping others not ourselves"-sung as we danced around a large toadstool!)next to where the old infants school was-now demolished and flats built there

Just had an email from my brother (none other then the local bobby Mick Patrick, now retired) He is just getting into I.T.and has yet to go on your site but I've told him the address and how fascinating it is to read about 'our past' My wage for the week at Sandersons was 16 shillings plus I had to make up any money that I was down after collecting on Friday nights, that's 16 pence a day for hauling a heavy bag of papers, and getting up at the crack of dawn in all weathers!

Mo

I had a paper round for Sanderson's too (in my case around 1971), but I had the Cromford Road Round - the shortest but heaviest of their routes!

Hi, it's Mick Patrick's sister, Maureen, (known nowadays as Mo) what a fantastic website!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spent a very happy nostalgic couple of hours, trawling the site and remembering my childhood in Aldercar and Langley Mill.I have a good memory for trivia ie shops and people. Not sure how to pass it all on but my uncle phillip was the bookie in Langley Mill and my mum (Evelyn Patrick) used to work at P.P.'s Electrical shop on the corner of Cromford Road. She used to buy the Christmas trifle from Piper's just around the corner. I used to dread going to Charlie Spittals (the dentist)great name? Precriptions would be filled from Maxfields the chemist. I had a paper round when Sandersons owned the newsagent opposite the Mill. My round took me across the footbridge up to Pender's Row and finished at my house on Upper Dunstead Rd, where I lived. I won't go on, there is so much more.
Really enjoying the site!

Think I remember Mick Patrick from Upper Dunstead-white blonde hair as a kid-sister Maureen-the nephew of Phillip Patrick who had the betting shop on Cromford Road-maybe this should be on "shops in L Mill"????

Yes it was Mick Patrick, but he says he can't remember the incident of the barbers. But he does remember the barbers and a few more places round there. He's retired now, so he won't cuff you will he..

I mentioned your accounts on the hair dressers on station road to Mick and he asked for the chat area internet address so he could look and probably answer.
