There is/was another Bunkerhill, approx. a quarter of a mile west of Kirk Hallam.

I don't know about you Robert, but with an address number as high as 164 for that date in the Langley area, only two LONG roads seem significant - the bottom part of Hand's Rd; or Breach Rd; - all the way up.

I'll plump for Hand's Rd;?

Brian

Langley is a village on the outskirts of Heanor, a village which has existed since the Domesday Book and beyond (though you can't tell by looking!).

The Arab Inn, was, I think, at the bottom of Breech Road, near to the junction with Laceyfields Road, but the pub no longer exists. You can find Breech Road quite easily using any mapping page on the web. Interestingly, Breech Road is an exceedingly steep hill, leading to Marlpool - could part of this road have been named Bunkers Hill?

I'll ask when I next see our the Society's Langley expert.

Hi, I've checked the census details and they are as follows: Page 26 begins 142 Langley, 143/144 is given as 'The Arab' Public house with Richard Thornhill as Head and occupation as Victualler and Coal miner. 145-148 Langley follows then page 27 begins 149 - 154 Bunkers Hill. Page 28 155 - 159 Langley. I was unable to find any clue to what 'Langley' was, ie road, street or whatever. I hope it gives you a clue to the whereabouts of Bunkers hill. I would like to thank you all for your observations.

Brian, on the Census you mention, what are the road/street/lane names which are nearest to Bunkers Hill. (coming from, or going to).
Perhaps this may give a clue to its then location?

Hello Peter, Yes I did get it from Census records. It was the 1861 Census RG9 2435 17 28. Brian.

Hi, Brian.
There's only one Bunkers Hill in the general area. This is 'Bunkers Hill, Wilford Rd; Basford, Nottm.'. It's on the 1891 Census for the area.

There's no Bunkers Hill on the 25" to the mile 1896-1900 map of Heanor.

Can't help you I'm afraid. It's obviously a nickname for a road or lane, but the name has never featured in 36 years of History Society newsletters.

Sorry!

I would appreciate it if someone could please tell me, where is, or was Bunkers Hill in Heanor. Some of my ancestors lived at number 164, my interest is family history. Thanking you in anticipation.
