It was published in 1993. An odd find on the clearance rack at Barnes and Noble here in Florida.

From page 115 - An Illustrated History of Derbyshire by John Heath.

(The remains of the post mill at Mapperley, Ilkeston, C1900).

I have scanned the image but I don't know how to post it.

Sounds good-but am still searching for a page out of a very old book(I was only given the page-not the whole book) which a Mapperley native gave to me many years ago. That will confirm if we are correct

With the two discounted mills, we could still have found the original four.
1 - The original Mapperley Windmill.
2 - The flour Windmill.
3 - The Dale corn Windmill.
4 - (perhaps) The disused 'Mill'. It seems to all rest on this little beauty to mark the four.

All their positions are given as above, a couple of sections beforehand.

P.S.
No pun intended, but that's life.

That'll be Millhouse, mentioned above.

Baldock was, apparently, a water mill, so that doesn't count either.

Oh well......

Do you think this one could count -
West Hallam Mill situated on West Hallam common? 1896 Map.

Hi, Robert.
Was Baldock Mill an actual Windmill, or was it a small old factory affair?
The same applies to the other one described simply as a 'Mill', but not an actual windmill.

Every time i see the name 'Baldock', Black Adder's side-kick springs to mind

I think Baldock Mill has always been in the parish of Stanley, which, before it was standalone, was part of Spondon.

Are these the missing Windmills?

1 - Flour Windmill. Situated several small fields West of the old Ilkeston Colliery site.

2 - The Dale corn Windmill. Situated approximately two and a half fields South East of the Cat and Fiddle.

3 - Disused flour mill (Windmill?) situated North East of Stanley.

4 - The disused Baldock mill (Windmill?) situated a quarter of a mile North West of the Cat and Fiddle.

These are in the extended area of search which Robert mentioned and still an interesting future walk for any interested members.

It still sounds like the original site, Robert - South East - more Easterly.

It would make a good exploratory walk round the area for any members so inclined for the remains of the other three windmills?

It could be the other three vacated the scene around the early 1800s? But will have a check for them on what now seems to be a larger area to survey.

Looking on the 1900 OS map, I can only find one, but that is due east of the parish church, two fields away from it. Presumably that isn't the one that is described above? It is labeled "Mapperley Windmiill (disused)."

I've scoured the maps, but the next nearest I can possibly find is at Millhouse, West Hallam.

That said, Ordnance Survey only showed what was there, so if the others had already gone, the map would have no reference to them.

I've also checked the 1835 Sanderson's map, which also only shows the one windmill. Interestingly, though, Mapperley itself is, in that map, labeled "Mapperley Township in Kirk Hallam Parish," which was news to me. Possibly if you were to include the whole of Kirk Hallam Parish you would get to four windmills (certainly you've got the Cat & Fiddle, which is still standing), though I can't see them. (That said, Sanderson's is much harder to read, and a lot less reliable over little things like windmills!)

Same one. They used to take the children of the village school out to see the site of that one.

Hi, Suzard.
I've found one and it's roughly to the South of the village.
Is this the one which you mean - or have we found two now?

There is still a site where one windmill stood-but I believe at one time Mapperley boasted 4 windmills.Anyone know where they were?
