Shipley History
replied on: 12/20/2004 1:35:19 PM Before the Norman Conquest, in the time of King Edward, Shipley consisted of two Manors - Scipelie Brun/Brown and Odincar. Malgar/Mauger held Shipley Estate in conjunction with Ulf Fenisc/Fenman, both described as Thanes, both having equal power and disposing of areas of land at their mutual agreement. What does seem hard to acquire, is any FULL knowledge concerning the long ago demolished Church, Chapel or Sanctory at Shipley Hall. Does anyone know the history regarding the small, rock/clinker built circular ruin, situated in the trees to the West of the demolished Hall? P.S. Just hired my Xmas fancy dress costume - next time it's foggy............ |
