I honestly didn't know that buses from Heanor don't run through Marlpool to Nottingham anymore. Pathetic.

It sounds like a case of all change at Ilson?

I don't know, Ice. As soon as us ex-pats vacate the area, you let it go to pot. Start a petition in the name of real chips being for sale once again.

The Queens Head hasn't changed exterior wise, but it has been an Indian Restaurant for quite a few months-supposedly quite good too.
The chip shop on Roper Ave was known as Scotch Corner for at least 15 years -it was run by a Scotsman-and eventually a sign was put up officially calling it Scotch Corner-a really good chippy, but it only opened a few nights a week.It closed a while ago-pizzas and chinese food seem to be more "British" now than the good old chippy.

This is all very sudden - it's the catholic church next the cemetery, isn't it. Where have they moved to?

And how long has the Queens Head been shut? I drive past it a couple of times a week (including yesterday morning!) and I've not noticed a thing.

The shop on the corner of East street and Breach road belonged to a guy called Billy Rice who also sold fish from a mobile trolly. The betting office on Breach rd used to be an electrical shop belonging to the chip shop next door.
And the hairdressers that is on the corner of Chapel street and Breach rd used to be an house with an wooden shed round the back which used to double up as a chip shop.

the bakery belonged to someone called "colum bells" (or that is what he called the shop or business), i think that's how you spell it. he used to bake there and sell there. then it went into a spate of decline till some italians bought it.

The second pub mentioned was the White Lion, rather than the Red Lion.

I used to go in there when I was around 15/16 - straight from school in full uniform! Still got served though!
