Hello paul
We lived in no 12 east view terrace, i remember the boardmans, june who you mentioned lived at no 13 with husband john brailsford, kids Tina Dale Ian and Cheryle, all later moved to sunningdale av at marlpool.
Alan was (hopefully still is) married to joyce,
who lived on campbell st off of cromford road.
Alan what i can remember of him was a really nice friendly man, just like june his sister! a very nice family indeed. Joyce used to work in the newsagents on cromford road, always had a smile for you.
Actually went to east view terrace last week and parked outside where 12 used to be, my kids were laughing at me cos i tried to get through the railings (the original ones are still there) to the gas tanks (now gone of course) i had the last laugh cos i am still slim enough to fit through.
so many memories of living there came flooding back! but was brought back to earth when i looked up the terrace and was faced with houses!! instead of john hampden press and aristoc.

You don't see many photos of East View Terrace (or Pender's Row as it was called), but this one, dating back to the 1940's/50's, shows some machinery being delivered to Aristoc, with the end of East View Terrace clearly shown. A rare picture.

Memories! nice photo, when these crates used to arrive the gaffers had the pick of the timber there were many sheds and fences in the area made from "Aristoc" timber.
Eastview Terrace 1945/early 50's.
14 Houses if I remember correct.1st one next to the jitty was Ivy & Ron Beastall,I remember the old lady who Kinza mentioned,Mrs.Garnet, her daughter lived next door I think their surname was Hand, they had a daughter named Audrey. There was another older girl lived on the row her name was Marion Derbyshire she had a built up shoe on one foot and a lot of the kids were frightened of her, then there was a Mrs.Danforth she lived at No.12 and Harrod's lived at No.14 Roy,Jean and Colin. When Harrods left to go down Milnhay a family named Boardmans moved in,they had a son Alan, and a daughter June.
On the row itself there was a large stone circular post near to the jitty,it had a dip in the middle where we used to play marbles, nobody seemed to know what this post was,it was very similar to the one outside the toll cottage on Aldercar Lane,I wonder! We also used to play in the Gasworks,we had some great slides and a rope.At the far end of the row was a static water tank where we used to fish!for tadpoles and newts, and on the land between the tank and Pickersgill and Frost we used to have some good dens! We also had slides and dens at the back of the offices. On the other side of the road was a piece of land which went from Frost's to the Gasometers and stretched down to the railway."The Tip" apparently used by Lovatts in years gone by,we did used to dig and get the occasional old unfired crocks.
When the static water tank was demolished, the first building I remember was McIntoshes who used to make fancy goods and mum worked for them for a while, was this the beginning of Nuthall Lighting before they moved to Codnor? Followed by Alan Eyre.

Happy Birthday, Kinza, you're still only a baby-you wouldn't even be the froth on Dad's pint when I used to wave to the children playing in the front of East View Terrace as I stood on the slide at langley Mill Rec
Cheers, Suz

Go on then... I've been persuaded to sort it at last.

This photo was taken in the 60's from a bedroom window on Thompson Street, across Edward Street, and shows the back of part of East View Terrace.

There's a picture of the gas tanks on the main website (the Railways page) - it's been there for a month or so - the Thompson Street photo will get loaded eventually......

Sorry but time is always getting in the way!!

Well.Robert, I was at Elnor St Infants from 1960.My first teacher,as I recall was a Mrs Armstrong. One of the ladies that watched over us at play times and dinner breaks was a Mrs Chambers who lived on Milnhay Road.I also remember a Mrs Whiteman as a "dinner lady".And last but not least. The "lollipop man" that saw us across the crossings was Mr Wilson.

Memory's like that.....

.... but I'm not convinced, especially since I was also born in 1959, so I'm obviously thinking of the right member of the family to be in my year at school!

I'll have to accept that I'm wrong, but (clutching at straws!) is it possible that the family had a trip over to Langley Mill prior to moving, so as to arrange school places, etc.? (My memory of Rodney at Elnor Street is one of only two memories I have of the place! As my memory is appalling!)

It is a mystery, as I'm pretty damn certain - I can see him stood in the playground at Elnor Street school, and I also have a picture of him in a class photo at Sedgwick Street......

Despite my lousy memory, I am 99.5% sure here - so, what explanation could there be? What year was he born in?

sorry Rob, your memory has let you down,
I have spoken with rodney and he never went to elnor st, He was born in 1959 so would have been 8 when we came to l,mill.
