As instructed (if he was wrong) I am correcting Robert!
Victoria Terrace Langley Mill-the sign is still there-and looks recently painted!!!!
It is where I thought it was from Robert's description-in the gap between the Fish/veg shop and Basil Bottomleys Grocery shop (Basil married the young lady who owned the fish shop) The street sign is in the side of the old fish shop-now the Pizerria!
So I guess Victoria terrace must still be an address!

Thankyou Sue
My Grandfather had a board strapped to his leg after a road accident .My recollection of him is Sitting just inside the Co-op Tailoring Door on the counter sowing suits by hand. He lived with us during the war after Grandma Died and being 4 or so recall he taught me to count Write And tell the time before i went to School.

Will do my best- I wonder if your relative taught one of mine? Ken Marson was the tailor in Heanor, Langley Mill and then Eastwood- all Coop-he probably started work there in 1930's. I'll see if I can find any more info

I think it's where I suspected! Just found a relative of mine lived there in 1922! 1922 electoral role shows Charles Sidney Plant, Mabel Plant and Arthur Phillips living at 3 Victoria Terrace!

Yes.

I'm not sure when the houses were pulled down. By my day, and still now, if you look up the gap between the two shops, you can only go a short distance before coming to the wall of Turner's, but this was a later extension to their works.

Robert-was Victoria Terrace the wide entrance between what was (in 1950-60's) the fish and greengrocery shop and Basil Bottomley's grocery shop? I can't remember what is there now-must go and have a look. I am enquiring as an aquaintance's parents kept both of those shops in 1940-early 50's.

Thanks Robert,

One other small enquiry, fathers occupation is listed as Railway wagon painter. Do you think he would have been employed by G.R.Turner or the Railway?
