Where the crisps were manufactured, must have been the shop made out of corrugated sheetings, or the 'Tin Tabernacle', as someone else has described it on the Site somewhere. They must have been wonderful tasting crisps, as quite a few people have mentioned how they enjoyed them so much. Another piece of Old Heanor History made fact. Thanks. Azzabuv.

My Grandfather and grandmother(Mr&Mrs Thornley) used to make them at their chip shop on Holbrook St. I was very young but I remember helping Grandad 'rumble' the potatoes. They lived on Aldreads Lane and I can recall seeing hundreds of silver tins with the Castle Crisps label on the front. When they decided to retire the shop was taken down and I think my parents made a garage out of it. I cannot remember eating the crisps, but I remember those chips, the best I have ever tasted.

suzard Researcher	Castle Crisps replied on: 3/31/2005 11:24:42 PM Now you come to mention it-only tonight hubby and I were chatting about the crisps at Devils Dyke-he could only remember Everest crisps and swore that is what they sold there and then...... I just said one word-"Castle" and he went into raptures-memory jogged and he could even taste them still. Sometimes life is so sweet.....what topic am I posting on??????
philfred	Castle Crisps replied on: 3/31/2005 2:57:51 PM Now I've got everyones attention, if you come down Holbrook Street winding back the calendar to the mid 50s. About halfway down on the left hand side was a chip shop built of corrugated iron. This was the home of Castle Crisps, the owners had tried flavoured crisps but the flavouring ruined the fat for chip frying. They could have been onto a winner, imagine cheese and onion flavour chips. Almost at the bottom of Holbrook Street, again on the left was a church organ bulder and restorer. I cannot remember any more details. It may have been one of their organs that has been pictured elsewhere in the forum. regards Phil
