Ouldgeave, Oldgrave, Oldgroaves?
replied on: 4/5/2005 12:25:13 PM

In Burdett's 1791 Mapping, it's listed simply as 'Oldgrave'. Apparently, this name, or even the slight variation - 'Old-Grave', was permanently in use from c1700 to 1845, (except for the slight hiccup c1835) then the name was changed again. Perhaps someone didn't like the 'Grave' part of the name or found Records of the Hall's nearly original name c1200?
Azzabuv.
