replied on: 11/18/2005 12:04:09 PM The tidy up I commenced properly a couple of months ago is now complete. The only bad news (for me) is that I really need to start again in the non-too-distant future, rather than allowing the site to reach the stage where another tidy up is as mammoth a job. With the odd exception, no-one seems upset about the process, and I firmly believe that the site is just as informative today as it was when I started weeding (in fact more so). In total some 1700 messages have been deleted since the site began - most of these, though by no means all, have been in the last two months. (A few, totally inappropriate posts, have been deleted in the past as soon as I have found them, and some users have, of course, also deleted their own posts from time to time.) The plea from me is that users should not enter posts in the first place if they are likely to be weeded in the future. If a post does not add anything to the overall subject, then it will eventually be weeded. We are all guilty of putting the odd one on, such as where we thank someone for an item they have posted - why not send them an email of private message thanking them instead. Anyway, I can relax a bit now. Thanks for everyone's continued support. When I first set this site up, I never imagined it would get anything like as much use as it does. Robert |

replied on: 11/13/2005 5:34:28 PM Azzabuv is annoyed at not being allowed the opportunity to respond to the above comments, so I have told him that I will post his email to me: "Well, Robert, that's the bulk of my 'irresponsible' Postings copied out, plus your two mainly libellous Posting excuses as to the true reality of this situation. No..... i do not wish to ever again have anything to do with that Behind The Scenes school playground of a site - plots - ploys - behind the scene back-stabbing. Apparently the behind the scenes E-Mailing was so heavy, the E-Mails sounded like machine gun bullets spattering off a concrete bunker. Your ploy to try and get me banned over a week ago was so blatently obviously, that no other member would touch it, let alone myself. I just wanted to see what deplorable action you would be forced to take to get me eventually banned. Well, now we know - deliberate on-site provocation. You may think you've covered yourself - you have not. As for your denial of my having a perfectly natural 'Right to reply' in public, speaks volumns concerning yourself. But i will have my right to reply in public, where-ever it has to be. And yes, you have your wish of having just a few regular posters - out of a total of 156. Even before i joined, there were literally dozens of 'dead' posters listed. I wonder who carried the can for that situation? Some people consider politeness and consideration a weakness. When they find out it's not, that's when the squeaky squealing commences. Too bad - for them. My appointment at the Solicitor's is on Tuesday and if he advices me to take legal action, through him..... rest assured - i certainly will. I can now log off this weird site and walk away with my head held high, in the way as i wish to, not yours. Goodbye Robert - till when and where. Brian - thankfully - logged off permanently." |

replied on: 11/13/2005 2:50:52 PM I see that Brian (Azzabuv) continues to visit the site, and I really hope that he finds the posts of interest. The way that banning works allows a banned person to visit, but not to post any replies themselves. I am really upset at having to ban anyone, especially someone who has added so much to the discussion, but I cannot afford to lose good members of the Forum. I would rather have fewer, but better quality, posts, than having a greater number of posts of questionable worth. And I don't want, as members, people who leave the Forum with a fit of pique only to start posting again after a few weeks later. |

replied on: 11/13/2005 12:06:16 AM Following a couple of acrimonious emails, I repeat here the content of an email I have sent to Azzabuv tonight: "Brian Enough is enough! I have now banned you from the site. You seem incapable of understanding what the site is all about. You have posted some excellent information, but, from day one, you have also posted a large amount of absolute drivel. You appear to need to post on any subject, whether or not you know anything about it, which, as I have said before, just means that people have to read through more. I am not prepared to lose any further regular contributors to the site - 2 have finished in the last fortnight, and both have told me that it is as a direct result of your comments! The distance chart was moved to Miscellaneous, and the comments I made regarding poems stand as stated. I wish you well for the future, but you are no longer welcome on this site. I shall post this email on the website for a week or two, so that people can at least understand what is going on. Robert" |

replied on: 10/23/2005 7:09:12 PM The 'Ex' description is totally correct, Robert. As you know from my other E-Mails, other committments now call. Robert. My 'Other Committments' are now semi-finalised, so this Post can now be deleted as and when. Azzabuv. |

replied on: 10/23/2005 3:38:05 AM I've started work on "Miscellaneous," which is the last topic to be done (General Chat is a lot easier, since it has far simpler weeding rules!) It is not easy! It is not made easier by (ex) members sending emails asking for all their messages to be deleted, which is neither possible nor desirable. Please bear with me. The tidied up site will be better in the long run. |

replied on: 9/16/2005 12:41:33 AM The tidy-up has been going on apace over the last week. Since the only query I have had is why the number of total posts is dropping rather than rising, I must assume that I am doing it in a way that doesn't upset anyone. A lot of posts which don't add anything to the collective knowledge of the site have been removed (including loads of my own!), some threads have been moved to another Section, and, occasionally, individual posts have been edited (normally to make them make sense after deleting other posts). So far I've got down as far as Family History (but I've still got Miscellaneous to deal with!) Once I have completed this project, I intend doing it every couple of months to keep on top of it. Not being on broadband makes the whole process extremely slow! |

replied on: 7/12/2005 12:44:42 AM Just a reminder about this! Please would everyone remember what this site is for - the sharing of information and memories about the history of the Heanor area. We do have a General Chat area for anything that is just that! |

replied on: 4/6/2005 6:51:39 AM Over the coming weeks (months?), I am planning to have a bit of a tidy-up of the site. This will include removing some posts, which have no direct relevance to the subject, or amending posts to remove irrelevent items. We've got an excellent site here, despite its occasional problems, and I don't want to be like some moderators and block the banter that goes on. But I have to remember that everything that is typed onto the Forum becomes searchable, and I really only want people who are searching for the history of Heanor and its surrounding area to actually find us! So, if something of yours disappears or is changed, please don't be offended! |
