Heanor Market Place
replied on: 4/9/2005 11:12:17 AM There was also that comforting 'department', where after a quaff or two at the Ray's Arm, Market Hotel Etc. you usually found yourself heading instinctively to at a great pace, namely the old, Council-run toilets, situated next to the old Firestation. Facing it head on, the women's entrance was on the right, men on the left. For its time, those combined toilets were worthy of being the pride of the Town. They were, in the main, clean and spotless, with ample space. It was a sad day when their French? replacement box/cubicle/wotzit appeared across the other side of the Market-place. What a diabolical replacement. But, that's privatisation. The day those old toilets vanished from the scene, was the beginning of the end for old Heanor - knock this down, build that instead and so on and on.............. Azzabuv. |
