I remember the old steam engines rolling up and down the dead-end spur (in the late 1940s} which jutted out into the dumbles near the bottom of Smalley Hill.

It must have been about 1936 I remember passenger traffic taking workers to Fletchers factory.

The only loco I can remember seeing on this line was an enormous LNER steam loco with no trucks. The date must have been in the mid to late 50s. I watched the fireman get off the footplate to close the crossing gates on the road to Coppice Colliey from Old Coppice Side.
