suzard Researcher	Mapperley Police Station replied on: 4/28/2005 4:02:56 PM Thanks for that Philfred-we've now reached the years when some of the elderly residents may remember it. Peter, trying to sort out the enumerator's walk-the village has been renumbered quite a few time over the years-but... the old police house is now no 39 and old P>O. no 40. The village is still numbered in a circle starting no 1 (the cottage after the lodge House on your right as you enter the village from Shipley country Park)-it follows the houses turning right towards Black Horse and cottages after, then crosses the road, goes up and down the jittys, along Coronation Road to the Lodge , crosses over the road and follows the path down by the school to the other Lodge House.What I have realised is someone once told me todays no 2 was the post office before it went onto Coronation Road (later it was in todays no 9)-today the Black Horse is no 10-which would fit in with no of houses between post office and pub on the old enumerator's walk! Hope you can follow this! So maybe the post office wasn't next to the police station originally.On 1881 census Mary H Hart (postmistress at a later date) was age 6 and living at 1 Shipley Road with her parents-which is I believe is now 2 the village!!! It's more fun than doing a jig saw puzzle!!!!!
philfred	Mapperley Police Station replied on: 4/27/2005 7:37:10 PM Kellys Directories for 1881, 1912 and 1932 all show there being a police station in Mapperley. That is all the information availablem for Mapperley. regards Phil

Addresses for the first 40 or so entries just state village with 2 exceptions entry 25 states POLICE STATION John Ford and his Family Police Constable.Entry 32 The BLACK HORSE INN Entry 45 POST OFFICE Mary H Hart.Entry 46 SCHOOL HOUSE no one listed as dwelling there so assume this is the school.Entry 48 Manor House.Addresses now change to Park Hall.ENTRY 75 ROYAL OAK.Final entry 90 Oakfield House. Someone with a better knowledge than i of Mapperley should be able to plot The Enumerators walk
Peter Chamberlain Researcher	Mapperley Police Station replied on: 4/27/2005 7:42:13 AM In Kelly's Directory published 1899 a Police Station is listed at Mapperley it does not carry an asterisk meaning it was not manned by a Sargeant so as Suzard suggests it would most likely be a Police residence

All I know at the moment is that it was "a long time ago"???-more will be revealed when an elderly villager has been questioned=I hope! In 1896 it probably would be the last house before the start of Slack Lane

suzard Researcher	Mapperley Police Station replied on: 4/26/2005 8:58:32 PM The building is still there-and I know the family who live in it- am hoping to get more information from an elderly villager soon-via a third party as i am not out and about yet.

suzard Researcher	Mapperley Police Station replied on: 4/26/2005 4:47:08 PM I have just discovered Mapperley had its own Police Station or Police House. It was situated on Walker's Yard (now known as Coronation Road) next door to the original post office. Does anyone have any more information about this or any names of village policemen??
