Heanor Independant Chapel
replied on: 5/23/2005 12:36:20 AM

The Independent Chapel was the one on Chapel Street, Marlpool, which later became the Congregational Chapel, and later still the United Reformed Church.

There is a postcard of it, dated 1937, on the main website. It was built in 1821, and expanded in 1833.

It did indeed have its own church yard, which was used for burials until 1856 when the municipal cemetery was established.

The Independents, prior to building their chapel at Marlpool, had met at Milnhay and at shop premises in Heanor.
