Messerschmitt? Attack
replied on: 5/29/2005 6:22:45 PM

Unfortunately, the only local connection with the attack is myself and my 'family'. But, it's worth repeating.

As a pre-school toddler, several adults, plus myself were walking along the main road of a Yorks. village. (we were visiting.) I remember dusk was approaching and the year was 1943. Suddenly, from behind, came a continuous, loud 'ruttling' noise - machinegun strafing. That's the only way i can describe it, exactly as i heard it. The next instant, i remember sailing over the hedge of someone's front garden, thrown by my father and accompanied by loud shouting. The next second, there was a great, loud noise/bang and the dullish sky lit up brightly but briefly, from behind the shops across the road. Missed - luckily.
Whether it was a Messerschmitt, or some other plane, no one knew for certain. But it was German and i'd never even fell out with Hitler at all. But, obviously, someone had informed him when i was born - in 1939 - the scwinehund.
Azzabuv.
