houseworkfairy	hunt family - gravestones replied on: 8/27/2007 4:49:33 PM Looking for my greatgran's (now identified as Lizzie Dunn Hunt daughter of Thomas Dunn Hunt)grave in Heanor cemetery a few weeks ago I was obviously on a roll as I found her grandfather Nathaniel Hunt's as well as those of his brother Charles' family They are located in the area behind the chapel at the first crossing of the small path to the Ilkeston road end (with the smelly yew trees and close to the garden of remembrance) - largish old stones. Now I've found them I vaguely remember my mum pointing them out once. So here we go with Nathaniel's - on one stone IHS Henry Second son of Nathaniel and Dorothy Hunt Of Owlgrave Farm Shipley Derby Who died (June?) 23 1883 Aged (22?) years (illegible) passed (peacefully?) away Also Dorothy wife of Nathaniel Hunt Who died November 3rd 1888 Aged 67 years Also Nathaniel Hunt Died June 8th 1889 Aged 67 years Thy will be done On the adjacent stone is their daughter Dorothy Dunn Hunt and her husband Thomas Allen (see 1881 census where we got confused with the Nathaniels - I think he was double counted because he owned their farm which was subsequently passed to his son Isaac) In loving remembrance of Thomas The beloved husband of Dorothy Dunn Allen Who died November 17th 1907 Aged 54 years Also of Dorothy wife of the above Who died December 4th 1908 Aged 53 years “Rest after weariness” The next stone is on its face unfortunately but across the path are the ones relating to Charles, Nathaniel's brother, and his family and also for Samuel Hunt the one I think got Owlgrave Farm and an Ernest and an Elizabeth Cresswell who was Samuel's sister Elizabeth and my Great-gran's Lizzie's aunt In loving memory of Sarah The beloved wife of Samuel Hunt who died October 7th 1897 aged 33 years “Thy will be done” Also of the above Samuel Hunt Who died April 5th 1905 Aged 46 years Also Elizabeth Beloved wife of Ernest Cresswell and sister of the above Samuel Who died January 3rd 1922 aged 58 years “He giveth his beloved sleep” In Affectionate Remembrance of Eliza the beloved wife of Charles Hunt who died October 8th 1868 aged 41 years Farewell dear husband and children sweet I go my saviour God to meet Oh turn your hearts to things above And meet me in that world of love Also of Eliza wife of Charles Hunt who died March 11th 1877 aged 42 years Also Charles Hunt who died April 6th 1898 aged 67 years In memory of Charles Son of Charles and Eliza Hunt who died Aug 30th 1858 aged 3 years and 3 months also Charles son of the above who died Nov 27th 1863 aged 3 years and 4 months also George son of the above who died Dec (?) 1863 aged 1 year and 10 months Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven Also of Ernest Cresswell (rest illegible as right at the bottom of the stone) Sorry such a lot but a bit of a breakthrough for me

suzard Researcher	hunt family replied on: 4/18/2006 12:11:13 PM Further research has revealed your Nathaniel and mine are one and the same 1871 they lived at the Dumbles - (possibly transcribed Brambles-the Dumbles was a cottage near to Old greaves (now called Allgrave hall farm) My grandfather (who was a farm servant for nathaniel at (transcribed as Quelgreaves farm) in 1881 lived in the Dumbles with his parents at one time. If you would like my info on this family Robert will give you my E address

I have the following: ROBERT HUNT b.abt 1753 Heanor m ELIZABETH THEIR CHILDREN (SOME OF THEM) ROBERT HUNT baptised 1779 NATHANIEL HUNT bapt. 1777 m ANN THOMAS STEVENS HUNT bapt 1785 FRANCES HUNT bapt 1800 all born Langley NATHANIEL HUNT bapt1777 m ANN had the following children-AT LEAST JOHN HUNT 1815 HELEN HUNT 1817 PHOEBE HUNT 1818 NATHANIEL HUNT 1820 CATHERINE HUNT 1821 CHARLES HUNT 1828 All born langley Mill

The one I need is the one in the 1861 census living at 70 Aldercar Lane Heanor Nathaniel Hunt born about 1822 Langley wife Dorothy b about 1823 and children Thomas D (9) Henry (7) Dorothy D (5) and Ebenezer (3) In 1871 Nathaniel is living at The Brambles Shipley (200 acres 2 labourers) with wife Dorothy and children Thomas Dunn (transcribed as Ann) born about 1852, Henry b abt 1854, Dorothy Dunn (transcribed as Anne) b abt 1856, Ebenezer babt 1858, Isaac b abt 1860, Samuel Fox born about 1865 and Nathaniel born about 1869 There is one servant William Forks aged 19 In 1881 Nathaniel is living at Oldgraves Farm with wife Dorothy and sons Ebenezer, Nathaniel and Samuel Fox In 1881 Thomas D is living on Breach Road with his wife and 5 kids but has died by 1891 as his widow still holds the farm with her brother as Farm Manager. in 1891 Ebenezer has a farm in Chaddesden - Fields Farm Isaac has his own farm in Chaddesden - Meadow Farm Samuel Fox has his own farm in Shipley with 6 servants this is Owlgraves Farm. His brother Nathaniel aged 21 is living with him. The other Nathaniel Hunt born about 1821/2 Heanor based in Chaddesden may be a cousin as the Hunt surname is in his children's names too. He has his daughter Dorothy Dunn Allen and son in law Thomas Allen with him as well as a visitor Annie Allen presumably Thomas's younger sister. This gets confusing here because this is Meadows Farm Chaddesden which is what Isaac son of Nathaniel has in 1891!!! I will need to check into this. I wonder if Nathaniel had two farms and was double counted? Any ideas anyone?
houseworkfairy	hunt family replied on: 10/19/2005 9:07:55 AM Yes It is the one with the Dunn middle name. Lilian's father was Thomas Dunn Hunt son of Nathaniel. Thomas D Hunt married Elizabeth Steeples and went to live in a farm on Breach Road I think. (Must organise my research better!)

My grandfather WILLIAM TORNHILL was an indoor farm servant in 1881 for NATHANIEL and DOROTHY HUNT.On 1881 census the farm is transcribed as QUELGREAVES FARM!. My grandfather WILLIAM's father RICHARD-a coal miner (mother HANNAH died in late 1870's)lived with his other children at the Dumbles-which was a cottage more or less across the road from the farm.WILLIAM went into the army and served in Cacutta-on leaving the army he married ELIZABETH CRESSWELL -whose grandmother was CATHERINE HUNT b. 1821 Langley Mill,CATHERINE's brother was NATHANIEL HUNT b. abt 18220 Heanor and her father was NATHANIEL HUNT b. Heanor 1777. I have more history of this family if you would like it.
