This place of terror to the evildoer, stands where once stood, the far-famed “Dog and Duck;” – Where once drunkenness, fighting, and every species of vice were encouraged, on the same spot the perpetrators of crime, are now held in durance vile. Although this lock-up contains but one cell, it is inferior to none for convenience, cleanliness, and comfort, (if comfort can be said to exist within the strong walls of a cell or prison). It is provided with ventilators for both warm and cold air, a provision wisely made to alleviate the sufferings of its unhappy occupants, during the cold northern blasts of the winter season, and the heats of a summer’s sun. The bed, although made of that coarse material, straw, is clean, with an ample supply of good and warm covering. Much credit is due to Mr. And Mrs Wragg, for the cleanly manner in which the place is kept, and the care they have bestowed to make it what it now is.
