frano,

Sorry about my misleading information, and thanks once again to Jenny.
It would have been 1959 when I started there.

From the book “ Heanor schooldays” by Narvel S. Annable

At the same time as I escaped from Mundy Street Boys School, and descended down the hill to Loscoe Road School in September 1958, a certain Miss Mary Watson (later Mrs Holmes,) left Loscoe Road Girls School and ascended up the hill with the first set of girls to help form the new Mundy Street mixed Junior School”

Sorry Frano,

I couldn't say, I started there in about 58/59 and girls were there then.
My elder brother was 3 years before me and he never mentioned it being boys only.

Mr Ernest Smith was the Headmaster when I was there about 50 years ago, he smoked a pipe & used to appear from his office in a cloud of smoke.
Mr Copestake was teacher in the top class, Mrs Holmes in the class before. Knowing what I know now I was probably related to both of them.
Can't remember the other teachers.

Will delve into my box and find the article-strangely I was in Heanor on Sunday and it was ver sad to see the School all boarded up.Walker Street school Eastwood was closed and then demolished seemingly overnight!Such a good building too.
How about a picture Of Mundy school, Iceboy, before it disappears altogether?

Surprised no-one answered the last. Of course we're interested in the prize-winners - there's bound to be some names that readers will remember.

Very old news!
23 Dec 1938
Annual Prize giving at Mundy St School
Headmaster Mr F Boam said the past year had been a successful one. During the year two of H>M> Inspectors had visited the school and had sent in excellent reports. Two of the scholars Alan Blake and Derek Stanway were each successful in winning a County Minor Scholarship and John Brown was awarded a free place on the result of the same examination.
I have a list of other prize winners if of interest to anyone???

Yes, he' O.K., Amy. I did a bit of publishing outlet research for him some time ago. At the moment, he's (hopefully) finalising his latest book - 'Scruffy Chicken'. I've been asking him since last year when IS it coming out. Sloooooooowww.

I've got a signed copy of his last book - 'Lost Lad'. It's a very interesting read, but, as i told him, the mystery was a slight tad too easy to solve quite a while before the final chapter hove into view. But the/his Heanor and Peak District scenic descriptions made up for that.
