Continuing the washing theme - can anyone remember the "White Tide Man"? This was a TV advertising campaign where a man dressed in white knocked on the door, and if you prduced a box of White Tide soap powder and answered a simple question, then money was won. There was much excitement in Loscoe when he appeared on our street and kncoked on the door of the house across the road from us. The lady of the house knew the answer to the simple question but had not got a packet of White Tide in the house so didn't get the money. My mum was furious as she had a box of Tide and he didn't come to our door, he just waved to us from his car that had a "White tide" logo all over it. I can't remember what the sum of money was that was being offered, I just know it seemed a lot to us at the time.

People who before they peg washing out, wipe the line with a cloth. When I was a kid, the line was covered with soot, but now I live in Bucks, not so many factory chimneys.

And do you remember there was an episode of "The Avengers" (or was it Adam Adamant) where the the plastic flowers were coated with some sort of addictive spray, so people kept buying loads of washing powder, until they had cupboards full!!.

During elections, cars with loudspeakers on the top with a guy on a microphone urging folk to get out and vote. I've not seen that for years now.

Norm

Is this the stage coach? Still trying to find out what it was all about.

This photograph was taken on Grammer Street, Denby, and, as is so often the case, is thanks to Jenny for digging it out.

You'll have to tell us more, if you can, Jenny.

Who ran it and, more importantly, why did they run it?
