I think you're right San,

I'll have to wait until I have a bit more time to piece it all together, but I think my Thomas Slack came a good while after yours on reflection!

Thanks for the offer. Although I'm not sure if there is a connection with my Slacks family and Birkumshaw. I have, as direct ancestors, John Slack born 1790;
and his parents as Thomas Slack, abt 1765, of Codnor, and Millicent Waters, [Walters] abt 1774, of Pentrich.
Do you know if there is any connection between this couple and the Slacks on your tree?

San...I know it's been a while since your original postings, but I was reading through some old threads and think we could have a connection here with the Slacks!

Ellen, daughter of Joseph & Mary Slack (nee Bircumshire) was my 4x great grandma.

Please feel free to get in touch, as I have some info both forwards and backwards in time!

I have loads of Eyre info -if you want to private message me I can send it to you.
George Eyre was killed inn an accident at bailey brook Colliery-also have some info on Millicent Fletcher
John Eyre and Phoebe Bullock were (coincidentally ) baptised on the same day at heanor-Phoebe was the illegit daughter of Mary Bullock.
George's brother , Richard Eyre, married Mary Jane Austin -Mary Jane's grandfather was John Austin -who was also the Grandfather of Millicent Fletcher!!!
This gets complicated- Millicent Fletcher (married George Eyre) was daughter of Joseph Fletcher and Sarah Austin. Joseph died age 29 and Sarah married George Sharpe and had 2 daughters with him
Joseph Fletcher was the son of Steven and hannah Fletcher .
Josephs brother Henry Fletcher married a Fletcher -and thats where further back connections come into it!

My husband's g.g.grandfather was George Eyre b.1850 who married Millicent Fletcher b.1853. His grandmother was named for her. George Samuel, George's son moved to Hartlepool. Do you know anything about George's mother Phoebe Bullock (m. John Eyre b.1820) or grandmother Hannah Fletcher (m.Samuel Eyre). Was she related to Hannah Fletcher?

Sue,
I have Eliza Slack, 1857, daughter of Thomas Slack, 1821, of Codnor, and Eliza Gaskin. Son of above, John, 1845, of Alfreton, is directly linked to my tree.
Would you think this is the Elizabeth you previously mentioned?

The Fletcher family were fond of using their ancestors surname as a middle name for their offspring.
eg. Son of Joseph Slack & Ellen FLETCHER -Charles Fletcher Slack.
Son of John Slack & Sarah Fletcher - Thomas FLETCHER Slack. Also daughter of above -
Ann Maria Priscilla WOODWARD Slack.

Hence the reason for coming to the above conclusion.
Now do you see?

Cannot make any connection with these as yet. The Fletcher Sisters, Sarah and Eleanor (sometimes named as Ellen) were born at West Hallam, as were the siblings I found (William, John, Robert, Ann Maria, and Samuel). Maybe you might also come across some from your tree at West Hallam.
This (from Pedigree Resource Files, Latterday Sts.)may be of of interest to you:
Captain Henry Woodward (1730) married Sarah Shelton in 1760, at Stafford, Virginia.
Their son was Henry Hyden Woodward, 1798 - 1848.
Son of the above was Alexander Fletcher Woodward, born 12 May 1839. Died 20 April 1902.
Making this an obvious connection between Woodwards and Fletchers.

Thanks, Suzard,
I have Sarah Fletcher (1799) married John Slack (1800)on 19 July, 1819, at Heanor,
and her sister, Eleanor, (1801) married Joseph Slack on 10 October, 1821, at Heanor. I have still not established the relationship between John and Joseph. Maybe brother's but can find no record. Possible parents of John were Joseph Slack (1780)& Sarah Parkin, parents of Joseph, Samuel Slack 1761) & Elizabeth Chapman, parents of Samuel, Joseph Slack (abt 1730) and Mary Birkumshaw.
Back to Fletcher sisters: Parents were Robert Fletcher and Elizabeth. I was told this was Elizabeth Woodward but can only find records of an Elizabeth Woodward who married William Fletcher 20 October, 1783, at Heanor, and Elizabeth Woodward who married Abraham Fletcher, 2 December, 1793, at Horseley.
Also needing records of any Willmotts married to Wood. Hence the name of one of the spouses in my tree, Willmott Wood.

Will be able to get a look up for the marriage in about 2 weeks time -lets hope its in Heanor-West Hallam records are very difficult-like trying to read on an ocean wave!!!! Sometimes the "earlier" marriages only give basic info. If you want to mail me direct Robert, Azzabuv or Iceboy can give you my address.
Fletcher is a well known Heanor name (lacemakers) and Woodward is a well known Mapperley Village name(farmers)- Fletchers would poss use Heanor St Lawrence church-Woodwards would poss use St Wilfreds West Hallam.

Suzard, No mention of any of these on the list you gave me of Slack baptisms at Heanor (1756-1798). Although there are two generations from my tree. I suspect those on the memorials will be closely related to those on my tree who are listed as:
Joseph, son of Samuel & Elizabeth Slack of Codnor, bapt March 4, 1780.
( Elizabeth nee Chapman. Marriage 17 Jan 1780 at Heanor).
Samuel, (father of Joseph - above) son of Jos & Mary Slack born June 22, 1761
(Mary nee Birkumshaw, marriage 22 August at either Heanor or West Hallam ).
I now need to find the parents of this couple before I can go any further.

They may be of interest-Codnor is only a hop, skip and a jump from Heanor-quite a few of my ancestors lived in Codnor, but were married in Heanor.
