G'DAY ICE
Hancocks hardware was there for many years
it was next door to Curry's, I am pretty certain it was still open into the 60's.
When I started work at Humphreys motor cycle shop in the early 50's we used to get files and things from there, they sent me over for a 12inch bastard file, I was scared to ask him.

I remember going to Mr Goodman through the little garden gate in the wall as you go around the corner to the library. Always seemed spooky when I was little. Anybody rememember Mr Spittle in Langley Mill?

So now Rowells is to close Sat, Oct 13th. Another blow to the town centre! They havent appeared to keep up with the times over the last years but it is sad to see such another institution bite the dust. Had a few things from there as a kid.

Anybody got the posterity pics underway?

I lived in what is now the tattoo shop,we moved from Ray Street on the back of my dads coal lorry in 1955. My parents Jean & Albert Jenkins ran it as a fish chip shop for about 3 years. A bag of chips then was 3d, for 4d you could have mushy peas and fish bits. There was a strange by-law at the time not allowing fish & chips to be sold on 6 days a week, so Tuesday was pie & mash day.
Two guys from Kimberley then opened the Heanor Sales & Exchange shop there, a little bit up market to Freddy Crook's.
