Langley Mill Boy Scouts
replied on: 11/30/2005 11:31:52 AM

The 1st Aldercar boy scouts were formed at
The Parish Rooms on Elnor Street in CIRCA 1948 by the new Scout master Stuart Willett.
The reason it was called the 1st Aldercar was because there had been previously a 1st
Langley Mill Troop which was Disbanded.
Meeting were held at a smaller hut behind the Parish Hall until they moved to the Chaple at the bottom of Gladstone Street until its closure.
The group then purchased a large Shed From The Smith family of Edstone House and it was placed on the site of the now Telephone exchange on Milnhay Road for a number of Years. The land was required for the Telephone exchange so the Scout Hut was moved to the end of Milnhay between the last Council House and the Bailey Brook.
Some Time during this period the troop name was changed to 1st Aldercar and Langley Mill.
