This is about Langley school, but marlpool does get a mention -and the year Marlpool and Mundy St schools were built.
R&H November 1895
Opening of new schools at Langley.
New day schools which have been erected at Langley, near Heanor, at a cost of $600, were opened with a tea and public entertainment on Saturday afternoon. The new building comprises a room 75ft long and 18ft wide, with cloak and other small rooms adjoining.Mr J. Holbrook was the architect and Mr W. Norman (Ripley) the builder. Accomodation is provided for about 140 children.Ther was a large attendance on Saturday and Rev C.E.L.Corfield (Rector) occupied the chair. He referred to the schools as being much needed. Thanks were due to Mr Holbrook who had made the plans free of cost and the Butterley Company, who had kindly built the schools and presented them with the very beautiful buildings.Much had been said about Board Schools, but they were better off as things were, because there would be no rates, no school fees, and the children would be under the able management of Miss Broughton and Miss Goldsmith. During the year they had spent $1400 in enlarging and building schools for the parish, and in a previous year they erected schools at Mundy Street and Marlpool, so that accomodation was now next to none.
