Langley Mill/Aldercar School Teachers
replied on: 1/26/2006 9:32:21 PM Aldercar infants 1959 - 1963 My first teacher was Mrs Stenson, she knew my mother as they had been at school together so if I did anything wrong I got it twice, once at school and then again when I got home. Her classroom was the hall where we had our dinners and there was a pile of chairs and tables at one end where I ran and hid on my first day and had to be coaxed out. Second year was Mrs Anthony, she had taught at the school some time before and came out of retirement she seemed about 200 to us, was very sentimental and could be brought to tears by poems about lambs, she was a vegetarian which was almost unheard of in those days. I believe her son; Les Anthony was something senior in the Police. Last teacher was Mrs Brown I don’t remember much about her apart from the fact that her husband owned Brown’s the estate agents in Heanor which seemed to impress my mother for some reason. The headmistress was Miss Clarke, I well remember being sent to see her a few times when I’d been naughty. As I remember her classroom opened off Mrs Browns and if we were a bit rowdy she would open the door and glare at us round it which was enough to reduce us to instant silence. Another memory has just come to mind, “Mrs Stenson’s Magic Pot”, this was a tub of Vaseline that was rubbed on any playground cuts and bruises, it worked wonders! |
