The Hardy Family of Heanor.
replied on: 2/4/2006 6:22:16 PM

Hi,

My tree also links with Heanor Hardy's but having looked trough the pages on this posting I don't think they are the same tree.

Here is some information just in case I am wrong.

Jonathan Wakefield Hardy and family from Sutton-in Ashfield lived on Watkinson Street. His son went to visit an aunt in Manchester and met and married his cousins (my grandfather's) sister Mildred Lewis. They came to live in Loscoe and were followed by several others from the Lewis family including my Grandfather 'George Francis Musson and his wife Elizabeth and another sister Ellen Lewis who became district midwife.

Jonathan Wakefield Hardy worked at Ormonde Colliery and was also apparently an apothecary. His son Jonathan sadly died but not before he became the father of twins Charlotte and John.

My Grandad was Codnor postman for many years and was also an active socialist. He was a member of Heanor Labour party/club. He too originated from Sutton in Ashfield.
His father in Law was William Lewis; an estate gardener originally from Shropshire.
he and his wife Charlotte also followed to live in Loscoe and during the war he was asked to become gardener for Mr Mitton who was the then MD of Butterly company and lived at Ormonde Fields House.

I'm pretty sure I have gone right off the point. Sorry

Did I mention that........Well you know how absorbing this family history stuff can be!

Jacquie.
