As soon as you get that marriage certificate we can confirm the names of both of their parents - then we'll be off and running ;-)

There is one family in Eastwood born in Brindsley on the 1901 census but none of your names show up. If Lily did marry in 1925 and she was the oldest and born after 1901 (which is likely) we need the name of her father (you could get that from the marriage certificate - as discussed on the previous page), until then without more info I think we're stuck for the time being.

There are 4 Lily Rileys born in either Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire after 1901
June Q 1902 Basford 7b 171
Sep Q 1904 Basford 7b 185
Mar Q 1904 Doncaster 9c 931
Dec Q 1904 Doncaster 9c 858

If you could find out anything on the other children regarding birthdates etc. that would also help.

Keep looking :-)

hi suzard looks like we both been real busy with this quest of mine.thankyou for all the help its very kind of u and everyone else to help.
Ater some digging of my own i have found out that my grandmother lily riley did have sisters Ada and Harriot also brothers possibly named dennis and james.Which unfortunately draws a blank with her being the Lily Riley from the loscoe family I believe she is from the Eastwood or Jacksdale area after trawling through loads of old letters, photo's and speaking to other family members trying to match up their info.

I have a copy of the marriage register for St James Parish Church Codnor 1844-1894 and have found this marriage
12th August 1882
WILLIAM RILEY age 20 Collier father GERMAN RILEY Banksman
married
JANE ANN HUTCHINSON age 18 father HENRY HUTCHINSON Collier
(unfortunately my copy doesn't give witnesses!)

It all seems to fit!!!

If Lily's family 1901 is correct-and her parents are WILLIAM RILEY and JANE A-then I think this is their marriage:
Jul Aug Sept Basford district 7b 177
WILLIAM RILEY JANE ANN HUTCHINSON

Here is WILLIAM with his parents and siblings in 1881 living at Loscoe Road
GERMAN RILEY Head 55 Denby Coal Miner
LUCY RILEY wife 45 Denby
WILLIAM RILEY son 18 Heanor Coal Miner
JOSEPH RILEY son 15 Coal Miner
JOHN RILEY son 11 Heanor

and the marriage of WILLIAMS parents
April May Jun 1957 Belper district 7b 683
GERMAN RILEY LUCY CRESSWELL

and here is WILLIAM'S wife JANE ANN HUTCHINSON in 1881 with parents and siblings living at Loscoe Grange
HENRY HUTCHINSON Head 40 Leicester Coal Miner
FAITH HUTCHINSON wife 39 Long Watton Leicester
JANE A HUTCHINSON daughter 17 Long Watton Leics Hosiery Factory Operative
WILLIAM H HUTCHINSON son 15 Heanor Coal Miner
JOHN J HUTCHINSON 12 Loscoe Grange
TOM HUTCHINSON 10 Loscoe grange
CATHERINE HUTCHINSON 7 Loscoe grange
CHARLES E HUTCHINSON 5 Loscoe Grange
SARAH A HUTCHINSON 3 loscoe grange
REUBEN HUTCHINSON 1 loscoe grange

This is possibly LILY RILEY 's birth April may Jun 1891 Basford 7b 132
I have found a birth of ADA RILEY Jan Feb Mar 1904 Basford 7b 267 - possibly LILY'S sister??

If you order a certificate from Basford or Ilkeston the fee is at least £8-50 in your case it would be Basford for the Marriage Cert but They do not recognise the GRO NO:
system The best option is to use the website Sue has sent and i also find this is the quickest

I live in Florida so I'm not sure of all the local information. I think you can view the registers (free) at Matlock. I also know you can order the at

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/marriages/

they are 7quid this way.

I also think you can order them from Ilkeston?

You would need the information from above
Basford 1925 Sep Q Vol 7B Page 407

You might also want to see if there was a writeup in the local paper.
