As far as I know it was always the Empire. The only Ritz I know was at Langley Mill at the bottom of the station yard.

PS. Just remembered another Empire feature. Before the war just round the Fletcher St corner, the word Empire was mounted vertically in light bulbs. Each letter came on in turn till all were lit then go out and start again.
