Prisoner of War Camps
replied on: 2/27/2006 7:54:39 PM

There was a prisoner of war camp at Smalley. It was situated on Pit Lane, about half a mile from Heanor Road. I believe it was used to house Italian prisoners of war. I remember going with my next-door neighbour to fetch bricks when the buildings were demolished around 1950/51. The site of the camp has been opencasted and nothing remains.
