I have read somewhere that word used to spread rapidly when the local chippie had actually got a supply of fish in. So perhaps it was just unecessary to ration. It wasn't just fish and chips that weren't rationed - it was anything in restaurants. But, to make sure that it wasn't only the rich is got the benfit of this, there was a limit put on how expensive any restaurant meal could be, and a maximum of only three courses!

This has become a topic of great conversation in my family." I didn't realise that they weren't, so can anyone give an explanation. (Educated guesses are acceptable, but the real answer would be even better.)
