Heanor Empire
replied on: 3/13/2006 7:16:40 PM Colin Welcomw to the site - I hope you enjoy it, and take an active part. Please don't take this the wrong way, but not everyone DOES know where the Ritz was. It depends on the person's age and location. I suspect that there aren't many people who remember the Ritz before it was the Ritz - but prior to the 1930's it was the Langley Mill Picture House. From the 1930's until 1957 it was the Ritz. I personally know it as Slater's Glass!!!! (I wasn't born until two years after it closed as a cinema.) At least I did know that it had been a cinema called the Ritz. But then there are quite a few "incomers" who have only lived in the Heanor area for a few years, but are, commendably, interested in the history of the area which they have adopted. They have no idea at all where the Ritz was, unless we tell them! The local history of the area needs to meet the needs of all these different people - everyone has a different, personal, perspective on the history of the area. |
