replied on: 1/29/2007 10:54:31 AM This is off the Heanor track but I am 'doing' the Walker family of Smalley, trying to connect Anthony Walker b. abt 1748, with the Walkers of Mapperley/Kirk Hallam/West Hallam. I am working with a Martin/Walker researcher and we have verified Samuel Walker=Mary Buxton 1804 in Duffield, plus their children. We have a possibilty that their ancestors originated in Mapperley, perhaps from Heanor before that. This family ended up in Shipley and the grandson, Walker Martin was living in Smalley by 1871. Is anyone interested in these families? |

replied on: 1/12/2007 12:18:29 PM 1891 census it looks like they were living in Mapperley Village? I have come across Walkers in Mapperley before. Coronation Rd Mapperley is known to the older villagers as Walkers Yard. Apparantly a Mr Walker used to stable horses there and the name has been passed down over the years 1891 census shows John Walker 52 Farmer b Heanor Mary A 52 Whitchurch Leicester Sarah Jackson (married daughter) 21 Marlpool John G Jackson son in law 24 Durham Isaiah Walker 15 Coal miner Marlpool Abner Walker 13 farm lab Marlpool Elizabeth H Walker 3 Langley mill Herbert Fewkes Grandson 2mths Melton Mowbray and next door John Walker 26 Coal Miner Langley Mary A 25 Ripley Annie 6 mths Mapperley Mary A Sheldon neice 10 Yorks Wakefield living at Cotgrave farm I don't know this farm but next to it on the enumerators walk is Simon Fields farm -so it would probably be somewhere up Park Hall. The coal miners in the family would probably have worked at Mapperley Pit I have sent you a PM |

replied on: 4/26/2006 6:37:44 PM Think this is the line my friend is researching. Jeremiah Walker b. 1860 was the grandson of Jeremiah Eggleshaw. The Walkers of this family were the last keepers of the Arab Inn at Langley- think it was in the 1950's when it closed. |

replied on: 3/29/2006 10:29:09 AM Fuller details of the other Elizabeth 1901 Albert St Soth Normanton Herbert Walker 34 b.Langley Eliza wife 30 b.S Normanton Harold 7 b.S Normanton Elizabeth 6 b. S Normanton. The other family at Smalley (which Peter found) were related to the Eggleshaws (a friend is researching that line) They had a son Jeremiah (age 15 in 1901) who was named after his grandfather -in 1881 Jeremiah is with his grandfather Jeremiah Eggleshaw. You have to decide which is the correct Elizabeth ?????? Seems like the heads of these two families (Herbert and Arthur) were brothers 1871 Marlpool John Walker 32 Miner Mary Ann 32 Arthur 12 Miner John 6 Herbert 5 Phillip 3 Sarah 1 Joseph Hudson 30 Boarder All born Heanor I think mary Anns maiden name was Eggleshaw-but that's just from memory!!! Another snippet from the memory banks-needs checking!!!- I think Arthur and Phoebe Walker -in Smalley on 1901-had a daughter Priscilla (age 8 in 1901)who married and went to America(or married in America) and her daughter (a swimsuit model!) was the long time wife of Clint Eastwood. This is what I remember from a friend's family history-I'll check with her if of further interest! I may have it all wrong, but Priscilla and Walker are in my mind!!! |

replied on: 3/26/2006 11:34:22 AM How certain are you that Elizabeth was born in Heanor? I can find no birth reg at the right time in Basford dist for Elizabeth, but there is one reg in Belper dist. 1901 shows an Elizabeth of right age b South Normanton -which is not far from heanor-her parents were Herbert and Eliza-Herbert was born in Langley nr Heanor. I know you are looking for a Herbert born at a later date.Is he of same family as Elizabeth? |
