Thomas Meakin married Catherine Milner in 1853 at Heanor Mount Zion Chapel, never heard of that place before. Anyone know where it is/was? Send me your email address in a PM and i'll see what i can send you. Have you joined Genes Reunited yet? I have a tree on there if you have, which you are very welcome to view. Have you tried using the website www.familyhistoryonline.net? You have to buy credits but it has been really helpful to me, they have a lot of marriages for Heanor St Lawrence on there, aswell as the surrounding areas. And also burial dates and places. I have searched on there and found Emily's marriage to William in 1881 at Aldercar St John. Ally

I realised yesterday that I hadn't checked the date of the 1861 census, so that 1 month old girl, although listed as catherine, certainly sounds like Emily. PM sent by the way. Also found at Langley 1861 Fanny meakin widow 56 -with adult children and grandchildren - Thomas' mother? Will PM you.

Langley is definitely on the right track, Emily and William's first child was born in Langley Mill. However, I'm a bit skeptical of the 1861 census you're looking at, as that doesn't track with the info in the St Lawrence baptism records. I would have expected more than one child on the census, as baptism records show: Fanny Meakin, bapt. 1854 Ann, bapt. 1856 Mary, bapt. 1860 (aged 10) Emily, bapt. 1863 Perhaps another Thomas and Catherine at Langley? The information I'm working off is a hard copy that came from my grandmother 15+ years ago, I have no reason so far to doubt it is correct and the IGI records match what I have. Add to that the fact that there was an Emily Meakin baptised in 1863 to Thomas and Catherine, i feel like I'm probably on the right track. Nevertheless, I will try and get a copy of the marriage certificate. (Given that I'm on the other side of the world, how do I do that exactly? ) On the Parsons side of things, that does track with what I've managed to scratch up, except for Sarah? Where were they located when the census was taken? I think you're right about Mary though, that's the conclusion I had reached. curiouser and curiouser...
allyhawk	Parsons, Meakin and Milner families replied on: 4/26/2006 11:45:54 PM Thomas Meakin is the brother to my great great great grandfather, who is William Meakin. Their parents are Henry Meakin and Fanny West. I also have Emily's parents as Thomas and Catherine. I never knew what Catherine's surname was... Untill now, thanks to you. I couldn't find their marriage at all! I have 12 children for Thomas and Catherine. 9 girls... Mary, Fanny, Ann, Jane, Emily, Catherine, Amanda, Elizabeth and Sarah Ann. And 3 boys... Thomas Henry, Joseph and Arthur. Sadly, Fanny died aged 4 and is buried with her sister, Ann, who died aged 2. Jane also died, she was only 23 months old, she is buried with her brother, Joseph, who died aged 9 months. I have also found it strange that Emily was baptised and she can't be found in the census, yet Catherine can! Very strange indeed. I have a fair amount of info on the Meakin family so if theres any info you would like i'll be more than happy to see if i can help you out with it. Ally

Thomas meakin and Catherine - being the parents of Emily is a little confusing. 1861 census (living at Langley) Thomas and Catherine had a 1 month old daughter who (on the census form) is called Catherine! Maybe they changed their minds about the name??? One of mine from Heanor did!!! or maybe Emily is of different parents??? There is another Emily Meakin(few years younger)-parents John /Elizabeth. I assume the information you have is from IGI-if so you need to research further into it -I have come across many errors on that site in my own research. It would be worth investing in Emily's marriage cert -this should give her father's name. James and Ellen Parsons 1861 had son William age 4 and daughter Sarah age 1 1871 -Ellen now married to Thorpe had folowing Parsons children William b 1857 Woodhouse Eaves Leic, JamesH 1862 Yorks ,Wright 1865 Heanor, Mary 1868 Heanor Possibly Mary died -Death reg Mary Parsons Jun qtr 1871 Basford dist age 3
