Holy Trinity Mission Church
replied on: 7/5/2006 1:00:17 PM Where is this Church? 31st May 1912 Ripley & Heanor News Working Men Paint and Decorate their Church Holy Trinity Mission Church, Stoneyford. (Photo is not very good) The above is a photograph of Holy Trinity Mission Church, Stoneyford, in the Parish of Ironville, and its band of willing men (most of them general miners), who have completely painted and decorated the exterior of their Church by voluntary service. This is as it should be writes a correspondent, and without a doubt will help to make the men love and value their church all the more. The man with the --- against him is Mr. Geo. Barrs, Licensed Lay reader, who has had nearly thirty years experience in connection with the work of the Church in this small hamlet, which is situated a mile and half from the Parish Church, and in the winter months most difficult of access. He has worked under four Vicars and two Bishops, commencing his work there by holding open-air services and cottage meetings, when there was neither church for Sunday school in the place. But today there stands this lovely little Church and a Sunday school with about 60 scholars and staff of teachers, and an institute fitted up with billiard table etc, for the use of the workingmen.
