We have a picture of the entrance to the gasworks from the railway - as Paul says, it was adjacent to Aristoc. No interior shots though!

Hi Wesley

The Gasworks were on North Street, the main entrance which is still there and is the entrance to Fletchers a reclaiming Company, is opposite Orchard Street (the "Puzzle") Looking across from Orchard Street the building on the right which I think has been converted into living accomodation, is where most of the instrumentation was and the main works were situated behind the high wall to the left, and extended to the bottom of Ebenezer Street, the boundary went back as far as the railway and had it's own sidings together with that of Clower's builders merchants.
I remember in the big snow of 1947 going with my Grandad with a sledge and queueing down as far as Station Road for Coke.(to burn)topped up with slack.Grandad also used it to burn on his blacksmiths forge.

I lived in Langley Mill from about 1954 to 1967. During that time the gasholders were there but there wasn't any "gasworks". Where would the gasworks be? The only bit of land available would seem to be the next-door field with coal deliveries being made from the adjacent railway.

Does anyone know when north st gasworks closed and when the gasometers were pulled down?

I know they were there in august 1978 becasue I climbed to the top to take some railway photos but theyd been closed for some time then.
